BFI: Film festival

Client: Student project Year: 2014 Involvement: Designer The brief: To create a brochure to promote a science fiction film festival run by the British Film Institute (BFI), plus supporting materials.

Solution
I chose an unusual hexagonal format for the brochure to ensure that it would stand out amongst the many other arts brochures available and to make it easy to take away in a handbag. The shape and dark colours reinforce the essence of the science fiction genre and the complex folds invite people to interact and explore.

TYPESETTING IN A HEXAGON SHAPE
I used the typefaces Imaki and Economica since they both give a futuristic impression. Furthermore they provided the best legiblility in the small format that the text needed to fit in.
BROCHURE FOLD
The unfolding and folding becomes an integral part of the user experience of the brochure. It's designed so that it can be folded in a number of ways to allow the user to decide which film to be displayed first.
FURTHER CAMPAIGN COLLATERALS
To reinforce the campaign branding, additional collaterals continues to use the hexagon shape as in this popcorn box.
CAMPAIGN IMAGERY
To maintain the science fiction theme of the campaign I created this background image based on a starry sky overlaid with patterns to be used within the campaign.
